    Feeding cows during the dry period

    Feeding cows during the dry period

    In the life of every cow, there comes a period when she must replenish her strength and prepare for the next lactation – this is the dry period, usually 6-8 weeks before calving.

    The dry period for cows is very important. But not all cattle owners realize this, so they have problems in the post-calving period, which prevents them from achieving the desired results. And investments in dry cows always have a high return.

    The main tasks of feeding during the dry period:

    • Do not allow body weight gain of more than 3.75 points;
    • Ration with a high content of quality fiber;
    • Protein level 12.5-13% in DM;
    • Dry matter intake of more than 13 kg;
    • Vitamin-mineral feeding;
    • Hepatoprotectors;
    • Preparation of calcium metabolism;
    • Free access to feed and water around the clock;
    • Comfortable housing conditions.

    The dry period has two phases: early dry period (8-3 weeks before calving) and late dry period (3 weeks before calving).

    Cows feeding program of Vitagro Nutrition during the late dry period involves the use of quality hepatoprotectors, mycotoxin adsorbents, chelated forms of microelements, macroelements, fat-soluble vitamins, anionic salts for metabolic acidification to stimulate calcium metabolism. For this period, we have developed a comprehensive product, Vitamix Close Up 31.

    The goal of using Vitamix Close Up 31 is to reduce DCAB (cation-anion balance), which stimulates the release of calcium from the body stores before calving, preventing the development of postpartum hypocalcemia. In high-producing herds, more than 50% of cows may experience postpartum hypocalcemia.

    Vitamix Close Up 31 is a comprehensive product containing hepatoprotectors, mycotoxin adsorbents, antioxidants, chelated microelement compounds, available macroelements, vitamins A, B, D, E, protected methionine. Together, this complex synchronizes the levels of Ca and Mg in metabolism and maintains the necessary level of these elements for a good lactation start. So, the principle applies here as well – the start determines the future!
