MCFAs improve immune status through diet
Medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) possess antimicrobial properties and can enhance the immune status when included in the diet of livestock.
Unlike other organic acids, which are effective antimicrobials in the stomach, MCFAs remain active further along the intestinal tract.
The mechanism of action of organic acids is twofold. On one hand, they lower the pH level in the stomach, which increases feed retention time and enhances the activity of proteolytic enzymes. On the other hand, they inhibit the colonization of feed and the gastrointestinal tract by undesirable microorganisms, increase nutrient availability, and improve digestion.
Essential oils, being lipophilic substances, dissolve the lipid layer of bacterial cell membranes, making them more permeable to water and ions, which leads to the leakage of cellular contents. Thus, the mechanism of action of essential oils lies in disrupting the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane to hydrogen and potassium ions. In this way, essential oils enhance membrane permeability, allowing undissociated organic acid molecules to penetrate the bacterial cytoplasm, thereby disrupting cellular function.

According to practical guidelines, adding VITAMIX ACID PRO at a dosage of 0.5 to 5 kg per ton of feed supports pig performance.
